Ex-British No.1 ‘Surprised’ by Djokovic’s Continued Collaboration with Murray Post-Australian Open

In November, Novak Djokovic surprised the tennis world by adding Andy Murray to his coaching team after the Scot’s retirement at the Paris Olympics. Former British No. 1 Andrew Castle expressed skepticism about the partnership’s longevity, particularly following Djokovic’s injury-related withdrawal from the Australian Open semifinal against Alexander Zverev. Nevertheless, reports confirmed an extension of their collaboration.

Despite early struggles this season, including three consecutive defeats in Qatar and Indian Wells, Djokovic reached the Miami Open final, marking his first final appearance since the previous year’s Shanghai Masters. He aimed for his 100th ATP title but was defeated by Jakub Mensik.

After withdrawing from the Italian Open, Djokovic faced scrutiny, with coach Paul Annacone suggesting he should participate in a tournament for match practice before the French Open. Subsequently, Djokovic accepted a wildcard for the ATP 250 Geneva Open, aiming for redemption after last year’s semifinal loss there.

While Djokovic last claimed a title at the Paris Olympics, he was left seeking consistency following a Grand Slam win at the US Open in 2023. He also lost the Wimbledon final to Alcaraz in 2024, highlighting ongoing challenges in his illustrious career.
